Meet a Mom – Elit Kirschenbaum | Essex County Moms

1.How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

I have 4 kids – one son age 16 and three daughters ages 13, 11 and 8

  1. How long have you lived in Short Hills/Millburn/Livingston and what made you decide to live here?

I moved to Livingston in September 2005 and then to Short Hills in 2008.

3.Tell us about your business and what other local things you are involved in!  And how did you get started?

I became an indoor cycling instructor shortly after my youngest child started school.  I fell in love with it and decided to pursue other areas of the fitness industry as well.  I became certified as a personal trainer last year and was hired as a coach at Orangetheory Fitness.  I love teaching both!

4.Favorite thing to do when you need “me time”?

100% getting my hair blown out!!

5.Favorite place for dinner with kids?

One of the few restaurants we can all agree on is California Pizza Kitchen at the Short Hills Mall.  They know us there by name;)

6.Most enjoyable place to hang out?

My family room with my husband and kids – as long as all of the kids are getting along!

7.How do you balance your career and being a mom?

Teaching over 20 classes a week while managing 4 kids can be hectic.  I love what I do but I always want my kids to feel supported.  Having each child in a carpool for their activities is crucial.  In addition, I make sure that I always have things prepared ahead of time – their clothes are laid out the night before, meals are prepped etc.

8.Proudest mommy moment(s)?

There are many proud mommy moments when you have 4 kids.  Pride is also redefined when you have a child with significant special needs.  I guess I am most proud of the way my three older children interact with and take care of their sister with Cerebral Palsy.

9.Can’t believe that happened mommy moment!

Riding in the car with my kids when they were little and one of them screaming out profanity.  I was caught so off guard!  When I asked them where they learned that word, they said from me!!

10.Best advice you have gotten from a mom?

It’s over in the blink of an eye – don’t wish it away.

11.Best piece of advice you can give other moms!

Don’t make separate meals for your kids.  Have them eat what you eat from day one!

12.One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I speak 3 languages fluently – English, Hebrew and Spanish
