Meet a Mom – Liz Nachtome | Essex County Moms

1.How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

2, Lilah is 9 and Morgan is 7

  1. How long have you lived in Short Hills/Millburn/Livingston and what made you decide to live here?

I grew up in Short Hills, moved to Los Angeles for college.  Lived and met my husband in NYC, and we moved to Livingston when I was pregnant with Lilah.  We wanted to live close to family and wanted the girls to have the same amazing childhood that I had.

3.Tell us about your business and what other local things you are involved in!  And how did you get started?

Embellishmanes originally started as a hair accessorizing business, I was putting fairy hair and chains with charms in peoples’ hair.  When Covid hit, no one wanted you to touch them, so I was on pause, but once the summer came and people were starting to go out, I noticed that my friends and I were constantly searching for our masks in our purses and beach bags.  A friend told me she needed something for her mask like I had for my sunglasses, so I made her one with the chains I had, and it started from there.

My kids are still young, so I am currently involved in their school and playing chef, driver, and housekeeper!

4.Favorite thing to do when you need “me time”?

When I need me time, I love to get a massage. I have also become a big fan of Pilates.

5.Favorite place for dinner with kids?

Patsy’s in West Orange.  The food is delicious and the girls love the tartufo.

6.Most enjoyable place to hang out?

Are we really allowed to hang out anymore?  Given the current situation, the most enjoyable place is in my den, hanging out with a glass of wine, watching tv with my husband.

7.How do you balance your career and being a mom?

Luckily, this isn’t the type of job that I can do in my free time, when the kids are in school or at their activities.  It’s also fun and creative, so my daughters love helping me out, finding the chains and charms that I need for an order.

8.Proudest mommy moment(s)?

When my daughter’s teachers tell us what kind girls I have.

9.Can’t believe that happened mommy moment!

The younger one basically molested every character on a Disney cruise, yes, we have pictures.

10.Best advice you have gotten from a mom?

Everyone is going to tell you how you should be doing things, ignore most of it.

11.Best piece of advice you can give other moms!

Don’t fight silly battles.  If your kids want to go out wearing tye dye pants and a purple camo sweatshirt (yeah, that happened), who cares.  Save your stress for the big stuff.

12.One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

That I jumped off a 30’ cliff in Turks and Caicos, and it was my idea.  Yes, I smashed my wrist and needed surgery, but I did it!
