Meet a Local Dad in Business: Eric Couper - Essex County Moms

Here at Essex County Moms, we love spotlighting the real people behind local businesses. The parents juggling carpools, workdays, and bedtime routines just like the rest of us. Today, we’re sharing Eric Couper’s story in a very “grab-a-coffee-and-chat” kind of way

Essex County Moms: Let’s start with the basics. Tell us about your family.
Eric: I’m a dad to two kids, Emerson (Emmie), who’s 6, and Atlas, who’s 4. They keep life busy, loud, and fun in all the best ways.

ECM: What does family time look like for you when you’re not working?
Eric: I’m big on lake life and water sports. Being out on my boat at Lake Hopatcong with my family, especially wakeboarding, is how I really disconnect and recharge. When we’re not on the water, we love family snowboarding trips and making memories together.

ECM: What do you love about living and working locally?
Eric: New Jersey is home. Being a local contractor means working with people who live where I live and are raising their families here too. That creates real relationships, trust, and pride in every project we take on.

ECM: How did you get started in your business?
Eric: I was introduced to the industry at a young age through my father. Being around it early on naturally led me into contracting. It’s always felt like the right fit.

ECM: What can families expect when they work with you?
Eric: You’re working with real people who genuinely care about your home and the family inside it. From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, clear communication and quality craftsmanship are our priorities. We want to create spaces that truly feel like you.

ECM: What’s your favorite part of the job?
Eric: The relationships. Building strong connections with other professionals in the industry and collaborating with people who care about their work makes everyone better.

ECM: How do you balance being a dad and a business owner? (Asking for all of us 😅)
Eric: Both roles require presence, patience, and consistency. Staying organized and remembering why I work so hard helps. Being a dad keeps me grounded, and being a business owner keeps me driven.

ECM: Best advice you’ve ever gotten from another dad?
Eric: Be present. Work hard, but don’t miss the moments you can’t get back.

ECM: Anything else you’d love our community to know?
Eric: This year, we had the privilege of working and volunteering with George to the Rescue, a home renovation series on NBC, to help transform a space for a Cedar Grove family. It was an incredible reminder of what community support can do.

Why we love this: Eric’s story feels familiar in the best way. Rooted in family, community, and showing up with intention. Exactly the kind of local business owner we love sharing with our Essex County Moms community.
