Meet Dr. G: The Pediatrician Essex County Moms Have Trusted for Over 30 Years - Essex County Moms

If you’re a parent, you know pediatricians become more than just doctors. They’re the people you call during middle-of-the-night fevers, the ones calming your nerves when your baby spikes their first temperature, and the familiar faces cheering your kids on through every milestone.

That’s exactly the kind of care families can expect at Concierge Pediatrics.

Located in Short Hills, Concierge Pediatrics is reimagining what pediatric care can look like for modern families. Their membership-based model allows doctors to spend more time with each family, offer same-day appointments, provide 24/7 communication access, and eliminate the dreaded packed waiting room experience. With fewer patients and more personalized care, families build real relationships with their doctors.

We sat down with Dr. Debra Semel Goldenring, lovingly known by families as “Dr. G,” to talk motherhood, medicine, Essex County life, and why she loves pediatrics.

First things first, tell us who you are!

Hi, I’m Debra Semel Goldenring but honestly, I answer to Dr. G, Dr. Deb, Dr. Goldenring… pretty much all of it!

How many kids and pets do you have?

I have two boys who are 31 and 28 years old, a one-year-old granddaughter, and a seven-year-old fur baby named Palmer.

What are your favorite family activities in Essex County?

I love running and really anything outdoors. Essex County has so many great places to get outside and stay active.

What do you love most about living and working in Essex County?

Honestly? Essex County has everything. You can find nearly anything to do, eat, or buy here. There’s such a great mix of community, restaurants, activities, and families.

Tell us about your practice and how you got started.

I’ve been practicing pediatrics in Essex County for 33 years. I originally started working with my dad and several others in private practice. Over time, medicine changed and that traditional model evolved.

Now I’m in this new chapter with concierge medicine, and I’ve really been enjoying watching the idea grow. It feels like getting back to the heart of what pediatric care should be, relationships, accessibility, and truly knowing your patients.

For families considering Concierge Pediatrics, what can patients expect?

I’m a really good listener. I’m compassionate, and I’ll go the extra mile for your family to help you get the care you deserve.

And honestly, that’s something parents need today. Families want to feel heard, not rushed.

What do you love most about your job?

It may sound corny, but I truly love being there for families through all of it, the good times and the hard times.

Watching a baby grow up over the years is incredibly special. You get to witness their achievements, help them through the stumbles, and build relationships with entire families over decades. It’s so rewarding to be trusted by this community in such an important way.

Being both a mom and a physician is a LOT. What has that experience been like for you?

No one can fully prepare you for being both a full-time mom and a doctor. It’s rewarding and overwhelming all at once.

But I’ve learned that if you focus too much on the overwhelming parts, it can stop you from being successful in either role. For me, the two actually made each other better. I’m a better parent because I work, and I’m a better doctor because I’m a parent. They really go hand in hand.

What’s the best advice you’ve gotten from another mom?

Probably from my own mom. She always told me:

“It’s okay to have your feelings. Just don’t act on all of them.”

Digest things first. Give yourself time to process, then address it.

That advice has kept me in check over the years.

Final Thoughts

As moms, we’re constantly searching for people we can trust with our kids and when you find a doctor who combines decades of experience with genuine compassion, it matters.

What stood out most while talking with Dr. G wasn’t just her experience or credentials. It was how deeply she cares about relationships with families and how committed she is to making parents feel supported, heard, and never rushed.

And honestly? That kind of care feels pretty rare these days.
